Important Update for 4+2 Interns: Pathway Retirement and Key Action Steps
Nov 18, 2024As you may have seen, the Psychology Board of Australia recently issued an important reminder for all 4+2 Interns regarding the retirement of the 4+2 internship pathway. We want to ensure that all of our supervisees at Provisional Psychologist Hub are aware of these key updates, as well as the critical steps you need to take to ensure a smooth transition to general registration.
4+2 Internship Pathway Retirement
Deadline: June 30, 2027
The 4+2 internship pathway will officially retire on 30 June 2027. This means you must complete your internship and submit your application for general registration by this date. It's crucial to plan ahead to ensure you meet the deadline and avoid any last-minute rush.
Key Action Steps for 4+2 Interns:
-
Plan Ahead
Have a discussion with your supervisor to develop a comprehensive plan for completing all your requirements ahead of time. The earlier you start, the better! -
Sit the National Psychology Exam Early
Avoid leaving the exam until the last minute. Some exam dates may fill up quickly, and retakes can be time-consuming. Sit the exam early to give yourself ample time for completion. Submit Forms on Time
If your role or supervisor changes, ensure your internship plan is updated within 28 days to ensure your hours count toward your total. Timely submission of forms will keep your progress on track. -
Part-time or Leave
If you're completing your internship part-time or have taken extended leave, remember that you have up to five years total to complete all requirements and keep in mind the pathway retirement deadline, your extended leave doesn't increase your maximum term. If you are thinking of returning from extended leave and need support getting started please make a time with us to discuss here; https://www.provisionalpsych.com.au/contact -
Renew Your Registration
Be mindful of your registration expiry date. Ensure that your registration is renewed on time to avoid delays in completing your pathway. Here is a link to lookup your registration; https://www.ahpra.gov.au/registration/registers-of-practitioners.aspx
